In considering a pet containment system it’s important to evaluate different systems based on your situation. Let’s take a look at the different types of pet containment systems and how much each system is able to contain.
Wireless System
Wireless containment systems are only designed to contain a small amount of land. The largest amount of land that a wireless system can contain is ½ of an acre. Also, keep in mind that with a wireless system, the transmitter becomes the center of your ½ acre containment area.
Inground System
Thankfully, an inground fencing system allows you to contain much more land than this. Most kits come with enough wire to enclose 1/3 of an acre of land, however by simply adding additional wire, you can expand the size of your containment area. Depending on the strength of your transmitter, your inground system can usually contain up to 10 acres of land.
GPS System
A GPS system is suitable for a larger estate, as it can cover 5 acres or more. However, keep in mind that GPS signals fluctuate quite a bit and the boundary you have created for your dog can vary quite a lot from day to day.
Final Thought
Knowing how big of a containment area you need is critical in deciding what type of dog fence you need to purchase. Overall, an inground system offers a nice middle ground between the two extremes.
